Here our survey for Kent Archaeological Projects located various ditches which on their own would have indicated an Iron Age date.

Excavation had however located remains of a settlement dated to the 11th century AD.

Magnetometry failed to locate the walls of the buildings which were made of chalk and flint rubble and it also did not locate a recent water pipe running across the area . This illustrates the limitations of this technique.
