ABINGDON ARCHAEOLOGICAL GEOPHYSICS

MEDMENHAM HILL near MARLOW BUCKINGHAMSHIRE

Here Archaeology in Marlow commissioned us to show their members how to use geophysical equipment and at the same time survey part of the interior of an Iron Age hillfort.

This was done with magnetometery with resistivity to follow.

The banks and ditches of the hillfort can be seen at the bottom (south) of the picture. The squares are 30m x 30m.

Most of the interior is covered by features which could be storage pits but are more probably tree throw holes. The natural geology was a flinty plateau gravel.

Modern fences with wire in them caused interference at the sides of the survey area and impeded progress.
