ABINGDON ARCHAEOLOGICAL GEOPHYSICS

MELLOR

Here we surveyed a few grids to enable Philip Day to see whether his results were comparable to ours. The results appear to have been :-

1    His Bartington Grad 601/1 with a single probe did not have the half metre stagger problem which we, and others, encounter with the 2 probes of the Grad 601/2.

2    A half metre spacing between lines did not, on that area, appear to give sufficiently better results to make the additional walking worthwhile.

3    Resistivity worked fairly well.

4    The soil was too damp for radar to work.

Yellowish sandstone bedrock

Main E-W ditch had signal of approx 4nT

Greyscale magnetometery with a very small area of resistivity overlaid in colour.
